TEENS/LEARNERS:

Why choose Bee Safe?

Learning to drive marks an exciting new phase in your life—the beginning of your independent adult life!

Driving lessons with a trusted driving school will help you get the skills and confidence you need to remain safe on the road. At Bee Safe, we will make sure you develop safe driving techniques so you become a safe teenage driver—and pass your driving test first go.

Everyone learns at a different pace and our friendly instructor has the patience to work at your pace to keep you building your skills and increasing your confidence. It’s sometimes easy to get intimidated or upset with other drivers, but we teach you how to remain calm while driving and how to make your nerves work for you not against you. We like to make sure our driving lessons are enjoyable and relaxed for you, too!

The first step in learning to drive is to get your learner’s permit, which allows you to learn to drive a car on the road with an experienced driver. In Victoria, once you reach the age of 16, you can apply to get your car learner’s permit. To apply you’ll need to study for the learner’s permit knowledge test, which is a multiple choice test comprising 32 questions that you answer on a computer at a VicRoads Customer Service Centre and you can do the test in Practice Mode as often as you like online first. You’ll need to answer at least 25 questions correctly to pass. You’ll also need to take an eyesight test at the Centre. Once you pass these tests, pay the fee and have your photo taken, your learner’s permit is valid for 12 months. You won’t be able to take your Driving Test until you turn 18, but you can sit the Hazard Perception Test in the VicRoads service centre at 17 years 11 months.

The next step is to obtain the necessary hours of driving experience with an experienced driver, whether that’s mum or dad or a trained instructor at a professional driving school like Bee Safe. You probably should decide to use both! When you book lessons with Bee Safe, you can arrange the pickup and drop off point of your choice, anywhere in the Geelong region. We are happy to do before school, after school, evening (night time) and weekend lessons. Our lessons vary in length – 45, 60 or 90 minutes long. You’ll need to have your learner’s permit and official logbook with you during your lesson so don’t forget these. You should bring your phone with you too because you will be taught how to use it legally and safely in the car.

You’re good to go—let’s start learning to drive!

PARENTS:

Why pay for professional driving lessons for your teen?

There are many benefits in having your teenager take driving lessons from a professional driving instructor. As a busy parent, you may simply lack the time to teach your teenager yourself. Or you may be aware you don’t possess the necessary patience--or the nerve! You may know you are likely to become irritable or impatient or will just suffer too much anxiety--all factors which will influence how your young adult feels about driving. In contrast, an experienced driving instructor has the skills, patience and objectivity necessary to be an effective teacher. Your input as a parent will be critical for success in the role of their supervising driver for most of their mandatory 120 hours of practice driving prior to their Driving Test.

Our lessons are designed to suit all learner drivers. Our combination of instructing, coaching and mentoring is ideal for teaching teens safe, legal and responsible driving and use of the road. Our qualified instructors teach everything from the basics, through to preparation for their driving test, ensuring your teen learns the current road rules – which may have changed since you last looked - and is genuinely ready to get their Ps.

Whether your teen has ever been behind the wheel of a car before or not, our driving lessons will boost their confidence. Everyone learns at their own pace and we will teach your teen at the pace that ensures they become relaxed and comfortable in charge of a vehicle.

As you are no doubt well aware, teenagers possess some challenging characteristics. They may be risk-takers, or have shorter attention spans and be easily distracted. They may be overly confident and as a consequence over-estimate their abilities as a driver. Whether your teen is shy or extroverted, nervous or over-confident, we take all these aspects of your child’s temperament into account in how we tailor our delivery. Our teaching methods are specifically designed to improve their concentration and focus and equip them with advanced low-risk driving skills.

The advantage of lessons from Bee Safe Driver Training is that we are able to sit alongside your teen as they take their test – something that most learners admit helped to calm their nerves.

In order to nurture responsible drivers who have excellent safe driving skills, we ensure Low Risk Driving Skills and techniques are practiced until thoroughly mastered.

All driver training is covered. Your teenager will learn to follow all road rules, appropriately use signals, confidently be able to park – including reverse park, brake effectively in the available conditions, maintain a safe distance from the car in front, and so on. Our focus on teaching defensive driving skills means we enable teenagers to learn to manage risk by thinking and looking/seeing ahead to avoid other drivers’ faults, through the maintenance of their Crash Avoidance Space and, of course, what to do in the event of an accident.

To equip your teenager with the practical experience of driving in different conditions, we expose learners to a variety of routes and conditions so they have the opportunity to experience them for the first time under professional supervision. We ensure your learner driver receives general road safety guidance for all driving situations, whether on highways and major roads or in suburban areas. As their skills progress, we move on to more advanced driving principles, such as driving in high density traffic or obeying tram road laws. Whilst not an aspect of the VicRoads Driving Test, we like to also expose the learner to Freeway driving conditions.

Whether you choose to only use a driving instructor or combine driving instruction with teaching your child yourself in the family car, Bee Safe Driver Training will help you instill safe driving practices in your teenager from the earliest opportunity.

Help your teen become a safe driver for life!
